<p>Newcastle want to reward Gordon with a new contract after his impressive campaign last season, that prompted Liverpool to show an interest signing the 23-year-old. The former Everton man grabbed 11 goals and 10 assists in 35 Premier League games while also featuring for England at Euro 2024.</p>

WHAT HAPPENED?

<p>Gordon was reportedly close to a shock transfer to Liverpool in July as Newcastle desperately scrambled to avoid punishment due to <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/premier-league-psr-loophole-aston-villa-chelsea-everton-rival-clubs-anger-transfer-business/blt79ea8942e74b24d0" target="_blank">PSR violations</a>. Discussions were held over a deal worth around £60 million ($67m) but the transfer fell through after <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/newcastle-faced-premier-league-points-deductions-anthony-gordon-deals-june-30-psr-transfer-deadline/blt703fccaeb304520a" target="_blank">Newcastle sold Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson instead</a>.</p>

<p>Gordon grew up following Liverpool and has previously admitted that one of the club's legendary former captains was his favourite player. He told <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0xhieDGrrts" target="_blank"><em>The Overlap</em></a>: "Steven Gerrard was my football hero growing up. Coming from Liverpool, he was like a God in Liverpool, and he was an unbelievable player."</p>
