Former Mexico international Cuauhtemoc Blanco has declared victory in his run for governor of the Mexican state of Morelos.
With a large lead in the polls, the 45-year-old posted a video on his Twitter account on Sunday night claiming victory.
According to the polling firm Mitofsky, Blanco will win the election with between 45% and 54% of the vote, while his closest challenger will have between just 12% and 18%.
Blanco retired from soccer in 2015 at the age of 42, and began a career in politics that eventually saw him elected mayor of Cuernavaca, the capital city of Morelos.
One of the most popular players in Mexican history, Blanco earned 120 caps for the Mexico national team, and became a legendary figure during his time at Liga MX side Club America.
