Patrice Evra has paid tribute to the fitness levels of former Manchester United team-mate Rio Ferdinand – but at the same time suggested that the centre-back should have been fitter during his playing days.
The pair are among the most active users of social media, particularly Instagram, with Ferdinand often showing off his fitness regime.

While playing in a friendly for Manchester United, Evra, who is now with Marseille, took his chance to take a dig at the ex-England man.
“Is this for Rio?” he asked as he spotted a camera coming into the changing room.

“I have to say something. I don’t know what he’s talking about on Instagram because I’ve not seen it yet, but I heard people say that he’s killing me. But I swear, even when Rio was playing, he was not that fit.
“Now he’s even got some abdominals!”
By this stage, Ferdinand was behind him and Evra tried to take his chance to pounce. “Look, look!” he cried as he tried to lift up Rio’s shirt. “He was never that fit when he played.”
Ferdinand took it all as the joke it was intended to be, posting: “Hahahahaha more lies from Lil Patty inside the #MUFC first team dressing room @patrice.evra”
