'I have no news' - Alba frustrated by Barcelona at lack of contract progress

Barcelona full-back Jordi Alba has admitted that he is disappointed by the lack of progress on a contract renewal with the club following their 1-1 draw with Atletico Madrid on Saturday.

Ousmane Dembele’s late equaliser was enough to give the Catalan side a point and keep them at the summit of the La Liga table.

But Alba instead finds himself more preoccupied with off-field issues as his desire to finish off his career in the Camp Nou looks to have hit a stumbling block with no further contact over fresh terms.

The 29-year-old’s current deal expires in 2020, though the defender certainly wishes to have his future tied up sooner rather than later and he expressed his frustration following the Atletico encounter.

“I have no news,” Alba told a post-match press conference in the wake of the clash at the Wanda Metropolitano.

“I don't know what the club think of me and it's strange because there's not much more of my contract left.

“My intentions are to finish my career here but we'll see as I don't know what their intentions are or when they think it will be convenient to call me.”

Demeble’s 90th-minute strike cancelled out Diego Costa’s earlier strike in the table-topping clash to ensure that Barca remained a point ahead of their rivals.

Alba feels that his side offered more in the way of inventiveness going forward than Diego Simeone’s outfit but acknowledged their opponents made it difficult to put them under siege.

"We tried to create much more than them," he stated. "But it wasn't easy to get into the danger areas.

"We would've liked to win, but the match was a draw and that's good in the end.”

Commenting further on Atletico, Alba added: “They have players who can attack more.

“But Simeone’s style gives them a lot of success so they won’t change.”

Barca now turn their attention to European action as they face a trip to PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Ernesto Valverde’s men are already through to the knockout stages but can secure first place in Group B with a win or a draw in the Netherlands.
