The NWSL trophies get reimagined look highlighted by NWSL Shield

The National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) announced a redesign of its year-end awards.

This is the first time since the league's inception, that a complete design overhaul has happened to the trophies and awards.

The NWSL Shield and MVP award have been a major part of the league since its founding.

Let's take a look at each of the Shield winners and MVP's from over the league's 11 years.

2013 Western New York Flash (10-4-8)

The WNY Flash won the innaugural 2013 NWSL Shield, despite falling to the Portland Thorns in the championship.

2014 Seattle Reign FC (16-2-6)

Seattle Reign FC won the 2014 NWSL Shield, despite falling to Kansas City.

2015 Seattle Reign FC (13-3-4)

Despite winning back-to-back NWSL Shields in 2014 and 2015, the Reign fell again in the championship to Kansas City.

2016 Portland Thorns FC (12-3-5)

The Thorns were the 2016 NWSL Shield winners, however fell in the semifinals to Western New York Flash.

2017 North Carolina Courage (16-7-1)

The 2017 NWSL Shield winners the NC Courage fell in the championship to Portland Thorns FC.

2018 North Carolina Courage (17-1-6)

Back-to-back shield winners, the NC Courage finally got theirs against the Thorns in the playoffs. The Courage defeated Portland to win the NWSL champioship.

2019 North Carolina Courage (15-5-4)

In 2019, the Courage once again won the NWSL Shield and the NWSL playoffs.
