Video: Crazy scenes at European U-17 Championship as Ireland keeper sent off during shootout

Netherlands' victory over the Republic of Ireland at the European Under-17 Championships was mired in controversy as the Boys in Green's goalkeeper was sent off during the shootout.

Jimmy Corcoran received a second yellow card for encroaching during Daishawn Redan's penalty kick. Corcoran stopped the initial effort, but was booked by Czech referee Zbynek Proske, who then demanded a retake of the penalty.

Defender Oisin McEntee was forced to go into goal for the second attempt, but could not keep out Redan's shot, which sent Netherlands through to the semi-final with a 5-4 shootout win.

Ireland had equalised through Tottenham's Troy Parrott following Liam van Gelderen's opener, sending the game to penalties. Adam Idah took the first penalty of the shootout, but could not find the net. The rest of the penalties were scored until the controversial final kick from Redan.

After the game, Ireland manager Colin O'Brien was disappointed with the nature of the exit, but restrained himself from criticising the referee in his post-match interview.

"I think he said something about coming off his line earlier, and he warned the Dutch keeper twice as well," O'Brien told RTE.

Stoke's Nathan Collins added to RTE: "It's heartbreaking. Raging for the lads. I didn't know what to do, what to think. When he saved it, I was buzzing, but it's the referee's decision. It's his decision, nothing we can do about it."

Ireland senior manager Martin O'Neill was in attendance at St George's Park, and went onto the pitch after the match to confront the officials about the incident.
