Things did not turn out as planned, as Barcelona were knocked out of the Champions League in humiliating fashion later that season when they infamously lost to Liverpool 4-3 on aggregate in the semi-finals.
The shock loss came a year after a similarly embarrassing catastrophic ordeal at Roma, where Barcelona lost 4-4 on away goals after winning the first leg 4-1.
In fact, Barcelona have only continued their Champions League misfortunes, getting annihilated 8-2 by Bayern in the 2019-20 quarterfinals.
