<p>Gallagher had been to Madrid in anticipation of joining Atletico, only for the agreement to be abruptly halted, reportedly due to <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-in/lists/why-chelsea-transfer-for-atletico-madrid-samu-omorodion-collapsed-explained/blt213c4d6027b55574" target="_blank">issues with Samu Omorodion's proposed move in the opposite direction</a>. With his future uncertain, the <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-in/lists/chelsea-request-return-flight-conor-gallagher-five-days-madrid-hotel-atletico-transfer-collapsing/blt104db9d0a18f2a6f" target="_blank">midfielder returned to England</a> and Gallagher is now "trying to find a solution".</p>

WHAT HAPPENED?

<p>Speaking to the media, Blues boss Maresca said: "Conor [Gallagher] is back. He is training apart. He is doing some medical tests and some training. He won't be involved in the game. At this moment, he is trying to find a solution with the club."</p>

WHAT MARESCA SAID

<p>Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone is said to be a big fan of Gallagher's and was looking to bring in the England star as Los Rojiblancos continue their development in the transfer window following an average 2023-24 season. The Liga side has already signed <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/atletico-madrid-confirm-julian-alvarez-transfer-bizarre-bizarre-post-after-landing-man-city-striker/blt5a0da00a9400d87a" target="_blank">Julian Alvarez from Manchester City,</a> while Robin Le Normand and Alexander Sorloth have also been brought in.</p>

<p>Maresca stated that although the 24-year-old is fit, Gallagher will not play in Chelsea's opening match of the 2024-25 Premier League season against Manchester City on Sunday, August 18. Indeed, it seems certain he'll leave Stamford Bridge before the summer transfer window closes.</p>
