Edward Manqele reveals Kaizer Chiefs' big mistake ahead of the new season - 'By now they should have known who to sign'

Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Edward Manqele has issued a warning to the club regarding the lack of signing players during this winter transfer window.&nbsp;The Glamour Boys have only <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-za/lists/kaizer-chiefs-find-sifiso-hlanti-replacement-after-signing-left-back-bongani-sam-from-orlando-pirates/blt4bfebbf5a3441144" target="_blank">signed Bongani Sam</a> from Orlando Pirates so far, though they did not officially announce him. They are also said to be signing goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari from TS GalaxyManqele believes that Chiefs are playing with fire by being inactive in the market and it could be another big mistake that could hurt them during the upcoming season.&nbsp;

WHAT HAPPENED?

"The pre-season is the foundation of the season to come and if you don't have the players you need in camp with you mainly with a new coach and technical team then that's where the problem starts," Manqele told <a href="https://www.snl24.com/soccerladuma/local/premiership/kaizer-chiefs/kaizer-chiefs-preseason-camp-importance-including-new-signings-20240714" target="_blank">Soccer Laduma.&nbsp;</a>"You see they are looking at players and they are not signing them but come the start of the season they will be looking at beefing up the squad and that will be too late and once again it will affect the team's performance.&nbsp;"You need to sign in the off-season and have all your players in the pre-season camp and training. That's how you build a good team for the season," he explained.&nbsp;"Yes, there could be a new coach with his technical team but there should be people at the club who help in scouting and those are the ones who should identify players hand in hand with the technical team," added the ex-Moroka Swallows player.&nbsp;"Meaning, by now they should have known who to sign in which department to strengthen the team for the new season. If that doesn't happen it will be another bad season for the team. That's why I am saying they should have had the new players in camp in Europe with the team."&nbsp;

Chiefs have been linked with plenty of players including Bafana Bafana wingers Elias Mokwana and Oswin Appollis, amongst others.&nbsp;With the season fast approaching, the Soweto giants are expected to bolster their squad following the arrival of their new head coach Nasreddine Nabi.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Chiefs are currently in Turkiye for their pre-season preparations - with Nabi understood to be putting together a strong squad for the new campaign.&nbsp;Newly signed left-back Bongani Sam and defender Edmilson Dove have been returned to South Africa after picking up injuries.This could force the Amakhosi hierarchy to sign more players before the anticipated 2024/25 season commences.&nbsp;
