<p><strong>GOAL</strong> can confirm that Atletico Madrid have reached a total agreement to sign Argentine forward Alvarez from reigning Premier League champions Manchester City. The English side will receive a <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/man-city-set-to-sell-julian-alvarez-atletico-madrid-five-times-amount-paid-for-him-football-fans-react/blteb04f56d9d32fd8b" target="_blank">club-record transfer fee</a> of £82m including add-ons (€95m/$104m) in exchange for Alvarez, subject to the 24-year-old finalising personal terms with Atletico.</p>

WHAT HAPPENED?

<p>The two clubs had been negotiating the terms of the payment and a final fee since Monday, however, they have now reached an agreement. Atletico will discuss personal terms with Alvarez before he formally completes his move to Spain,but it has been reported he is eager to take on a new challenge away from City.</p>

THE BIGGER PICTURE

<p>The World Cup-winning attacker joined the Cityzens from River Plate in January 2022 for just €17m (£14m) and then signed a fresh contract last year which extended his stay at the club until 2028. He played a crucial role in Pep Guardiola's side winning the treble in the 2022-23 campaign and then contributed with 11 league goals last season as City became the first club in the history of English football to <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/pep-guardiola-better-manager-sir-alex-ferguson-man-city-man-utd-premier-league-title/bltccc0f1f7ec078ab2" target="_blank">win four straight league titles</a>.</p>
