Morata's departure means Atletico Madrid must dip into the market to sign a replacement for the Spaniard. According to Spanish outlet<a href="https://www.mundodeportivo.com/futbol/atletico-madrid/20240716/1002283050/bombazo-prepara-atleti-sustituir-morata.html" target="_blank"> Mundo Deportivo</a>, Diego Simeone would like to pursue Alvarez, who is fresh off <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/julian-alvarez-lionel-messi-alphonso-davies-winners-and-losers-argentina-copa-america-canada/blt547fbedd3ae740f4" target="_blank">winning this summer's Copa America with Argentina</a>.

It may seem like Alvarez is an unrealistic signing for Atletico, who are not notorious for spending big in the market. But they have the advantage of knowing that<a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/julian-alvarez-man-city-chelsea-psg/blt03e3382dd3d8ec58" target="_blank"> Alvarez wants to leave the Premier League champions</a>, rather than play second fiddle to Erling Haaland.

Alvarez still made 52 appearances in all competitions last term, although a significant number were from the bench. He did have a run while Haaland was injured during the campaign, and by the time Pep Guardiola's side were crowned champions, he had netted 19 times and tallied 13 assists.
