'We have all of the tools!' - Lee Carsley backs Thomas Tuchel to win World Cup with England as he prepares to hand over Three Lions reigns to ex-Chelsea and PSG boss

<p>Carsley's tenure as England's interim boss ended on a high with a thumping <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/thomas-tuchel-named-england-manager-ex-chelsea-bayern-munich-boss-oversee-bid-2026-world-cup-glory/bltfa32673f01069cf5" target="_blank">5-0 win over the Republic of Ireland</a> this weekend. Ahead of former Paris Saint-Germain manager Tuchel taking up the reins in January 2025, the head coach of the Three Lions' under-21 side fancies their chances at the 2026 World Cup in North America.</p>

WHAT HAPPENED?

<p>Asked if England can win the World Cup, he said: “I think we are in a good position to do that. I think we have the talent to do it. I have been lucky now to be at the last couple of World Cups and the timing of the players being in form, physically and mentally, at the right time, picking the right squad. We have got all of the tools. We just need to play them in the (right) order.”</p>

WHAT LEE CARSLEY SAID

<p>Former England boss <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/gareth-southgate-resigns-as-england-manager-emotional-statement-after-euro-2024-final-heartbreak/bltd1a723cfd0ac920e" target="_blank">Gareth Southgate resigned from the post</a> earlier this year after their <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/sexy-football-back-england-inspiration-spain-euro-2024-preparing-2026-world-cup/bltea9e19a341775f12" target="_blank">European Championships final loss to Spain</a>. Now, ex-Chelsea manager Tuchel will be tasked with taking the national side to the next level and winning the country's first World Cup since 1966. Incidentally, the good work Carsley has done over the past six matches should not be overlooked either.</p><p></p>

THE BIGGER PICTURE

<p>Tuchel will take charge of England in early 2025 but it remains to be seen who the Three Lions' next opponents are as the fixtures are yet to be announced.</p>
