PSG player ratings vs Angers: Kylian Mbappe masterful & Lionel Messi pulls the strings as Ligue 1 leaders squeeze past strugglers

Kylian Mbappe bagged a brace and Lionel Messi turned in a typically classy performance as PSG saw off Angers with a 2-1 win.

Mbappe opened the scoring inside 10 minutes, bundling Juan Bernat's cross over the line. He added a second shortly after, latching on to a Messi through ball before rounding Paul Bernardoni and finishing into an empty net.

The Parisians had some defending to do in the second half, as the home side pushed to make things interesting. And Angers were rewarded for their pressure, as Sada Thioub grabbed a goal in the 89th minute.

But they couldn't grab an equaliser, and PSG survived any late nerves to secure what became a slightly nervy win.

    Goalkeeper & Defence

    Gianluigi Donnarumma (6/10):

Misjudged the cross that led to Angers' goal. Was otherwise untroubled.

    Marquinhos (6/10):

Took care of most of his defensive work without fuss.

    Sergio Ramos (6/10):

Won a few key headers, but was caught out of position as Angers scored.

    Danilo Pereira (6/10):

Still not entirely natural as a centre-back. Didn't do anything wrong, though.

    Midfield

    Achraf Hakimi (7/10):

Much improved after a few poor showings. Dangerous in the attack.

    Carlo Soler (5/10):

Didn't seem to do much. Deservedly subbed after an hour.

    Fabian Ruiz (7/10):

Played as the deepest-lying midfielder of PSG's three. Looked more than comfortable in the role.

    Vitinha (5/10):

Had his best game in a PSG shirt last time out with a goal and an assist. Was far less impactful here.

    Juan Bernat (7/10):

Impressive in a rare start. Grabbed himself an assist with a nice cross to Mbappe.

    Attack

    Lionel Messi (8/10):

Assisted Mbappe with a sublime through ball. Lots of energetic runs and fine passes. Near his best.

    Kylian Mbappe (8/10):

Opened the scoring with an awkward finish. Grabbed his second with a lovely piece of skill.

    Subs & Manager

    Marco Verratti (6/10):

Very silky, kept the ball moving, a welcome return from a hamstring issue.

    E.C. Bitshiabu (6/10):

A late introduction to shore things up after Angers scored.

    Warren Zaire-Emery (N/A):

On the pitch for six minutes. Must wonder what else he has to do to get in the team more.

    Christophe Galtier (7/10):

Benched Verratti but went for an otherwise as expected lineup. Messi and Mbappe did most of the attacking stuff, and the league leaders were mostly comfortable. It got a bit nervy with a late Angers goal, but PSG did enough on the day.
