WHAT HAPPENED?

Last season saw City become the first side in English top-flight history to secure four successive domestic titles, with an <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/relegation-odds-slashed-why-man-city-expulsion-premier-league-realistic-outcome-not-hyperbole-115-charge-ffp-case/blt91b423050aa64401" target="_blank">unbeaten start being made to the defence of that prize</a> in 2024-25. The reigning champions remain the team to beat, with <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/man-city-title-rivals-arsenal-liverpool-already-hoping-ffp-points-deduction-derail-bid-five-in-a-row-premier-league-season-115-charges/blte55a0d07f947e141" target="_blank">everybody else in the process of trying to chase them down</a>.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Just about the only thing that Guardiola has not achieved is going a full Premier League season without suffering defeat – having picked up two losses en route to collecting 100 points in 2017-18. Quizzed on whether City are best placed to <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/arsenal-invincibles-how-wengers-2003-04-gunners-went-a-season-without-defeat/1xkm3tgyvsbjj1wzrewhqz0liu" target="_blank">emulate Arsenal’s legendary side from 2003-24</a>, former Blues captain Richard Dunne – speaking in association with online bingo site, <a href="https://www.heartbingo.co.uk/ " target="_blank">Heart Bingo </a>– told GOAL: “Out of all the teams in the Premier League at the moment, 100 per cent they are. That’s almost the next thing. They have achieved everything they have set out to do over the last few years and the squad that they have got, they take every competition seriously. “You would imagine that somewhere in the back of their mind they must be thinking ‘we’d like to do that and achieve what Arsenal did’. You wouldn’t put it past them because they are such a difficult side to beat. They have found a way this season of winning games without Rodri and being strong, so that’s a positive sign for them. It’s obviously the most difficult thing in the Premier League to do, as only one side has done it, it is hard but I’m sure there is a dream there.”

WHAT DUNNE SAID

City have picked up nine points from three games this season, scoring nine goals in the process – with prolific frontman <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/erling-haaland-breaks-30-year-record-man-city-star-second-straight-hat-trick-victory-west-ham/blt3b542d1a82a59a86" target="_blank">Erling Haaland already boasting seven efforts to his name</a>.
