'From joke to genius!' - Ange Postecoglou makes declaration on Tottenham job amid uncertain future after record-setting first half of season

<p>Postecoglou’s side have won only once in their last six Premier League outings and sit 12th in the standings. With 23 points after 18 games, they are in line to record their <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/ange-postecoglou-oversees-tottenham-worst-half-season-16-years-nottingham-forest-defeat/bltcbd67167c1ec03d4" target="_blank">worst half-season points tally since the 2008-09 campaign</a>.</p>

WHAT HAPPENED?

<p>Postdcoglou’s future at Tottenham has come under a lot of scrutiny as his gung-ho style of play has not panned out so far and the Lilywhites have suffered a number of humiliating losses. However, the Australian believes that he can turn around the north London side’s fortunes this season and go from being a ‘joke’ to ‘a genius’.</p>

THE BIGGER PICTURE

<p>Speaking to the media, Postecoglou said: "There’s always people in life [who are] looked at a bit curiously because they do things a bit differently and they’re a bit of a joke until they get it right, then all of a sudden they’re a genius. That’s probably relevant to us right now.</p><p>"The first thing you look at as a manager is, are the players still responding to this, are they looking to an alternative out there? I haven’t sensed that at al. It’s very easy to, because it’s human nature to think we need to do something different or we’re obviously undermanned, let’s change something.</p><p>"The players still want to tackle this the way that we are tackling it. But it’s up to me to guide them through that and show them all these things are temporary. If we do get through in a positive way, the bonus and the benefit for us is that it makes you stronger. Because you know whatever you face in the future, you’ve been through worse and overcome it."</p>

WHAT POSTECOGLOU SAID

<p>Tottenham have not had the best 2024 and they will be keen to turn a page heading into 2025. They will play their last match of the calendar year when they host a relegation-battling Wolves side on Sunday.</p>
