Liverpool and Manchester United locked in battle for 19-year-old wonderkid but face serious competition from Argentine giants River Plate

<p>According to <a href="https://soydelmillo.com/mercado-de-pases/2024/12/27/river-va-por-julio-soler-debe-ganarle-a-manchester-united-y-liverpool-en-la-puja-por-el-lateral/" target="_blank">Soy del Millo</a>, Liverpool, United, and River Plate are 'fighting' for the signature of the Club Atletico Lanus defender. The report adds the Premier League teams are willing to pay around €16.5 million (£13m) for the 19-year-old. Although River Plate may struggle to compete with that price tag, they can reportedly give him 'more playing time'.</p>

WHAT HAPPENED?

<p>Liverpool have been <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/liverpool-interested-lanus-defender-julio-soler-argentine-club-demand-usd15m-fee/bltec778e0870df91f2" target="_blank">linked with the Argentine Under-23 international</a> since the summer as they look for younger options than Andrew Robertson, 30, and Konstantinos Tsimiskas, 28. And United are also searching for left-backs due to the injury-prone Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia. Soler is seen as a <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/julio-soler-man-utd-liverpool-argentina-olympics-teenager-rubbed-shoulders-lionel-messi/bltb2068461c83a02ec#cse4980e66836a8678" target="_blank">big talent,</a> so it is no wonder top teams are enquiring about his availability.</p>

THE BIGGER PICTURE

<p>The 5ft 9in Soler, who was in the final squad for the Argentina U23s at the 2024 Paris Olympics, is on a contract that runs until the end of December 2026. He was born in Paraguay to Paraguayan parents but moved to Argentina at a young age.</p>
