Ryan Gravenberch and his international team-mate Cody Gakpo combined for a crucial Liverpool goal as the Reds came from behind to beat Leicester CIty in the Carabao Cup third round. Gakpo netted the equaliser early in the second half, while a thunderous strike from Dominik Szoboszlai, and a deft flick Diogo Jota carried the Reds to an ultimately comfortable 3-1 win.
Liverpool continued their recent trend of conceding early, as Kasey McAteer finished past Caoimhin Kelleher after a well-worked counter in the third minute. The Reds' response was a strong, though, as Ben Doak hit the woodwork, Gakpo had an effort smartly denied by Jakub Stolarczyk, Jota squandered a chance from two yards out with the goal gaping and Conor Coady cleared a Gakpo header off the line.
The Reds eventually equalised, with Gravenberch setting up Gakpo, who pivoted and fired home the leveller shortly after half-time. Gakpo should have added a second a few minutes later, but his lofted header hit the bar.
Szoboszlai came off the bench to eventually turn the tie around, lashing a shot in off the bar from 25 yards out. And Jota sealed things, directing Jarell Quansah's cross into the far corner with a clever backheel.
