Two months after the Welsh team gained promotion to League Two by winning the National League, Tozer's dad, Keith, died of leukemia. The Red Dragons captain made an emotional post on social media that many supporters took as encouragement to seek medical care.

WATCH THE CLIP

"Well, my dad told me that he had leukemia and he was in hospital," the centre-back told the <a href="https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/men-in-blazers/id908407811?i=1000637564105" target="_blank">Men In Blazers</a> podcast. "Sadly, he died two days later. Because it happened so quick, it was such a shock, but when you go through something like I say try and turn a negative into a positive and if it can help people. "I've had lots of people come up to me and say thankfully: 'It made me go and get checked, I don't want to see my boy in the same situation you're in'. It's powerful. I'm grateful that hopefully it has helped people along the way."

WHAT TOZER SAID

Toze said in his social media post that his father's illness progressed so quickly "because he had left it too late. Unknowingly, he was masking the fact he was [in] complete agony. "Go and get checked" we regularly said. He was just too scared of what it could be."

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Tozer was named among the substitutes as Wrexham faced Burton Albion in the EFL Trophy on Tuesday. He may be back in the starting XI when they take on Forest Green Rovers in League Two this weekend.
