Ghana name squad for 2019 WAFU Women's Cup

Ghana have named a 20-player squad for the 2019 West African Football Union [WAFU] Women's Cup tournament, scheduled to be held between May 8 to 18 in Cote d'Ivoire.

The Black Queens, who are the reigning regional champions, have been zoned in Group A alongside hosts Cote d'Ivoire, Togo and Senegal.

The 20-player final squad that scaled through the two-week camping are composed of three goalkeepers, seven defenders, six midfielders and four strikers.

The squad includes last year's tournament's Most Valuable Player, Janet Agyir, and 2018 Fifa U17 Women's World Cup joint top-scorer Mukarama Abdulai.

Others who made coach Mercy Tagoe's list include midfielder Grace Asantewaa, midfielder Juliet Acheampong, forward Mavis Owusu, defender Rita Okyere and defender Gladys Amfobea.

The Ghana women team face Senegal in their first match at the Stade Robert Champroux on May 8 before facing Togo and the hosts Cote d'Ivoire.
